The 4-Channel Relay Module SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) is designed to independently control up to four separate devices. These relays are commonly employed to switch devices requiring a higher voltage than what typical microcontrollers, such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, can handle. This specific relay module is capable of managing household appliances with a power rating of up to 10A.
Note: The PCB color or layout might have slight variations.
Understanding Relays:
A relay serves as an electrically operated switch. While many relays use an electromagnet to mechanically operate a switch, alternative operating principles, such as solid-state relays, can also be employed. Relays prove valuable in situations where it’s necessary to control a circuit using a separate low-power signal or when one signal must control multiple circuits.
Relays operate based on electromagnetism. When the relay coil is energized, it acts like a magnet and changes the position of a switch. Importantly, the circuit powering the coil is entirely isolated from the section responsible for switching ON/OFF. This isolation provides electrical separation. Consequently, it becomes possible to control a relay using a 5V signal from an Arduino while having the other end manage a 220 to 240V appliance. The higher voltage end is entirely isolated from the 5V Arduino circuitry.
